My name is Darla Amundson and I am majoring in Child Development and Family Relations, Family Life. Aging, care giving and Diabetes are topics that impact everyone in some way or another. We all will have parents, grandparents, neighbors, co-workers or friends as well as ourselves that will all go through the aging process. We will also be impacted by being a caregiver for someone or know a person that is and know of someone who has diabetes or could even have it ourselves. This blog is a way for me to share some of the resources that I have found that may be helpful to utilize or share with others.

I know how wonderful yet stressful care giving and diabetes can be. In 2009, my mom became the constant caregiver for my dad when he became unable to care for himself after losing both of his legs due to complications with diabetes. I experienced firsthand how rewarding, yet difficult that could be for both of them until my dad's passing in May 2011. I hope that this blog can assist others through the joys and tribulations of care giving for a loved one as well as find useful resources for those with a chronic illness such as diabetes.

Through my research I have found there to be many social aspects that are impacted by these topics. Relationships with family and friends are affected, finances, stress, self esteem, just to name a few. My hope is that with additional education and some of the resources you find here, living with cargiving and diabetes can be made a little easier.
